Dicey and the Great Pumpkin

So, it's "officially" fall and with that brings gratuitous Halloween advertisements, cooler weather, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. I've actually never had a pumpkin spice latte, but evidently they're such a big deal that there were a few news stories about it.

I love pumpkin everything--pie, cake, bread, bagels, you name it I'll eat it--and once a friend made me a pumpkin pie for my birthday. So it's possible to say that Fall is my favorite season for this reason alone, though I do tend to like winter more, mostly because it's so dang hot.

But anyway, this is going to be a blog post about pumpkin because I love it and this is my blog so I do what I want.

See, Linus gets me.

But anyway, my favorite pumpkin pie recipe of all time has got to be Paula Deen's. She might be a racist who is probably contributing to the gradual clogging of the American artery, but it's still some damn good pie. I've actually made this, and it takes a while and some complicated kitchen-fu, but it's still pretty great.

To me, the pumpkin is what the buffalo was to the Plains Indians: let no part go to waste. So after you're done carving your pumpkin pick out the seeds, put them on a flat cookie sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and add salt and pepper and wa-la, good stuff!

I've never made pumpkin bread before in my life (a tragedy I know) but I can look at some pictures of some and put them on here.

Mhmm. I hope this image isn't copyrighted.

And now I'm hungry so I'm going to go get food I guess. I have class in less than two hours, so, wish me luck.

the minor fall, the major lift

So this is my first entry in my new blog. I'm sure I will look back on this entry in a few years with distaste, but for now I'm just going to start with what I've got. Which is basically nothing.

I'm starting this blog because as a Media and Communications student it's pretty important. I have had other blogs (and have been blogging consistently for at least two years) but this is my first blog that will be like this, I think. I'm going to try to update it at least once a week. If that keeps we'll see, but that's the goal.

Most people that are going to be visiting this blog will know who I am, I hope? And if you don't, well. My name is Dicey, I'm currently eighteen-years-old and am attending Texas Tech University. (My first class is actually on Monday...wow. How did I get here?)

This is a picture of me. It's not the most recent picture of me, but it'll do.

Three things about me. Hmmm.

  1. I love to read and write and I love pop culture/media and try to intake as much as I can.
  2. I'm a liberal and a feminist.
  3. If I seem like I don't like you I probably like you. Unless I really don't like you.
I guess there's not really anything else to say in an intro post? Honestly I'm sort of boring and not witty or funny so there's nothing else really interesting to say about me. My clever turns of phrases honestly are few and far between and seem to be generated mostly by luck.
